Postcards from Motherland Book

Postcards from Motherland is a handmade book that was created in a week-long workshop in March 2011 through Art Starts‘ Programs Without Walls, a program for mothers with young children.  Through a series of exercises, mothers answered questions and wrote about their experiences with support and community in relation to their mothering.  The faux postage stamps from Motherland were inspired by real “allomothers” in their lives (individuals of either sex who help care and feed the young).  All of the women were photographed for the collage cover and then used the images in their final books.
