The Motherland Line

202-59MOMMY (202-596-6669)

The Motherland Line is a phone message line that you can call and anonymously share your thoughts and stories about your experience of the first years of motherhood, whether you are currently post-partum or your children are grown.

Feel free to call the line to communicate anything you want about what you’re going through or remember from those early years, at any time, day or night (the idea for this line actually came to me in the middle of the night when I was feeding my daughter).  No one is on the other line, and no phone actually rings. You can leave a message for up to three minutes.

I’ll also be posting specific questions about becoming a mother here on the website, and you can call and answer them through the line.  I’ll share some of the responses on the website, and also use them in future installations and workshops.

I’m using Google Voice for the line so there’s no connection to the 202 area code, I only chose that exchange because I was able to find the word “mommy” in the number (perhaps it will be slightly more memorable).

If you don’t have free long distance to that area code, you can use the Google widget above.  Just type in your phone number, and the system will connect you to the line for free.
