The Good Mother Project Workshops
Toronto, ON/April-June, 2012

From April to June 2012, Greetings From Motherland did arts-based research in the form of “The Good Mother Project”, which we ran as an 8-week series of multi-disciplinary arts workshops with mothers at the Harbourfront Community Centre in downtown Toronto. As many mothers know, there is extraordinary pressure on women from the moment they conceive a child to live up to a shifting ideal of motherhood that many women feel frustrated by, but find difficult to challenge publicly. In “The Good Mother Project”, we began to investigate the pressures and implications of what it means to be a  “good mother” in collaboration with mothers in the community through writing, collage, doll making, photography and music.
