To create new works, I develop ideas and collaborate in workshops of different lengths with mothers who are both non-artists and artists. No experience is necessary, and childcare is provided. Each week, we all get a break and an opportunity to play with the raw materials from our daily lives as nurturers and to see what emerges, using photography, writing, sound, book arts, sewing, and other mediums. As the artistic director, I create the structures for people to experiment within, and guide the overall vision as the pieces evolve. When we exhibit what we’ve created, the pieces continue to grow and change, as the audience adds to or interacts with them.
